“Don’t tell me how educated you are, tell me how much you have travelled.”
We all know that the Singapore Passport is awesome. In fact, we have the 6th most powerful passport in the world, giving us visa free entry to 167 out of 219 countries (168 if you include Singapore). Imagine traveling to 76% of the world without restrictions! :D
With so many countries to choose from, I decided to come up with a list of amazing places Singaporeans have to go. The next time you have trouble thinking of a travel destination, just refer to this list for a hassle free trip. I even listed the number of visa free days we have to help with your planning.
Time to pack your bags and go explore!
Amazing visa free countries Singaporeans can travel to
1) Peru: Machu Picchu
183 days – Visa Free for Singaporeans
The ancient lost Inca city of Machu Picchu at Cusco is a must see for anyone traveling to Peru. I was lucky enough to visit this during my 76 days around South America, and I loved it. Tourist crowds aside, It was quite surreal visiting such an important religious site. There are numerous ways there as well. From taking an easy train ride to hiking the Inca Trail, there’s a route for everyone. Oh yes, and look out for the llamas!

With dramatic volcanic landscapes, waterfalls, geysers, and plenty of other breathtaking photo opportunities, Iceland is another country to visit without a visa. Not to mention that there’s a chance of seeing the mesmerising Northern Lights! It’s also pretty easy to self drive, which I plan to do when exploring Iceland later this year. :D I’m heading there during winter, but will definitely fly back to trek again in Summer. The experience between seasons is simply too different not go back again.
3) Indonesia: Komodo Island

With thousands of islands around the archipelago, Indonesia offers plenty of travel experiences close to home. A place that I’ll love to visit though is Komodo Island, where the largest lizard on earth can be found. It used to be a place for exiled convicts, but now it’s a popular tourist spot for the curious. I read that there are a couple of great diving spots as well.

4) Ecuador: Galapagos Islands & Baños
90 days – Visa Free for Singaporeans
Ecuador is an amazing country that has a lot of different experiences packed into a small country. I love it because you can be climbing snow capped Cotopaxi at 5,897m one day, and exploring the Amazon Rainforest the next. If you love adventure, Baños is also probably the cheapest place in the world to pursue such activities. There is also the Galapagos Islands, where I swam with sea lions at one of their many islands. Check out the video below!

Surrounding the Li River with karst peaks, Yangshuo is a place right out of Chinese styled paintings. The landscape is so well loved that it even can be seen on the back of the old 20RMB note. Rock climbers love it, but it’s also popular to take a slow ride down the river in a bamboo boat. I remember cycling around the farms too!
6) Norway – Trolltunga

These snow topped inlets set the scene of the typical Norwegian landscape. Formed by glacial erosion, the steep cliffs hug the river that flows beautifully in between. I could stand there and gaze out for ages. Not to mention striking my trademark pike at one of them!
7) Brazil: Iguazu Falls
30 days – Visa Free for Singaporeans
The Iguazu Falls is by far the most amazing waterfall I’ve seen in my life. Bordering both Argentina and Brazil, the Iguazu Falls is one of the widest waterfalls in the world. It stretches for almost 2.7km and can be visited easily from both sides of the border and from Paraguay. The most impressive of the 275 cascading waterfalls is the U-shaped Devil’s Throat!

8) Vietnam: Hang Son Doong

Discovered only in 1991, the Hang Son Doong in Vietnam is the largest cave in the world. In fact it’s so big that it can fit a Boeing 747 in it’s largest cavern! Even looking at pictures make me wonder whether this cave on another planet. Would love to take one of the multi day expeditions to explore the cave some day. If that’s not possible, there are still plenty of other more accessible options in Vietnam.
9) New Zealand: Abel Tasman

New Zealand is a haven for those who love adventure sports and the outdoors. There are dozens of easily accessible activities to get your adrenaline pumping. I remember Abel Tasman National Park being one of my favourite as we kayaked in calm crystal clear waters.

Taking the hot air balloon at sunrise is a must do for anyone going to Cappadocia. But more than just that, there are also underground cities and lots more to explore.

An already interesting country to explore, the Maya Chichen Itza adds another dimension to Mexico’s colourful history. The famous ruin can be found in a sprawling complex that can take days to explore. I still wonder how the ancient Maya’s built this magnificent pyramid.

It’s quite impossible not to be blown away by the sheer vastness and beauty of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA. Stretching up to 446km long, the Grand Canyon is nature’s masterpiece, carved out by the Colorado River. I mean just take a look at the pictures.
13) Mongolia: Anywhere in the countryside
14 days – Visa Free for Singaporeans
Nothing like getting on a horse to explore the Mongolian countryside. While the cities may be a mass/mess of concrete blocks, the charm of Mongolia lies out along the rolling plains. I had a painful bum after my 6D5N horse riding expedition, but the views and local interactions made it all worth it.

A visit to nearby Cambodia will not be complete without seeing the majestic Angkor Wat. I will always remember how we found a quiet spot inside the temple complex to watch the sunrise. Beats squeezing with the throngs of tourists at the main area anytime.

The largest waterfall in the world borders both Zambia and Zimbabwe. For the really adventurous, you can even swim up to the edge of the waterfall at a spot known as the Devil’s Pool. Don’t worry, I read it’s only accessible by the official tour company under very strict safety conditions!
17) Greece: Santorini & Meteora

Mention Santorini and images of white painted cliff-side homes with blue domed roofs synonymous with the greek islands immediately materializes. Ideal for a trip with your loved ones, Santorini promises beautiful sunsets and romantic nights.
Meteora on the other hand is something of an architectural marvel. Aptly named “in the heavens above” in Greek, Meteora has 6 monasteries built on top of sandstone pillars.

The ancient palace of Sigiriya was built on a massive rock rising up to 200m high. Back in it’s heyday, the gateway to the palace took the shape of a giant lion, giving it’s name “Lion Rock”. I still remember seeing the larger than life paws of the massive lion when visiting this site a couple of years back!
