Whisky Live: Collections 2014
Back for the fifth year running, Whisky Live 2014: Collections gathers some of the best and most sought after bottles of whisky at our iconic Raffles Hotel. I’ve been to wine and beer festivals before, but this was the first time attending an event just for Whisky. I guess as one matures, you learn to appreciate the finer things in life, and Whisky is definitely one for the gentleman (laughing and rolling my eyes as I type this. lol).
Alcoholism aside, I’ve always appreciated Whisky. Not the kind we have in college to get drunk, but the lovely and flavourful single malt varieties. But then again, if it wasn’t for this event, I probably wouldn’t even have learnt about other types of whiskies beyond the single malts. In fact, Whisky Live brought together more than 40 bottles of the world’s rarest, oldest and most acclaimed whiskies. For the true whisky connoisseur, there were several Karuizawas dating back to 1968, Lagavulin 37 year-old, Port Ellen from 1977, the classic Glendronach 1972, the latest release of Hanyu, The Joker and many more.
For me, it was an educational experience sampling and learning about the different types of Whiskies, as well as their pairings with cheese and food. Masterclasses were also there for the more serious attendees. Apparently there was cigar pairing as well, but I didn’t get to try that.
What I liked was that apart from whiskies, the organisers also brought in other spirits and cocktails. There was even a friendly competition at the pop up cocktail bar, with 5 of the best bars in Singapore; 28 Hong Kong Street, Antidote, Jigger and Pony, L’Aiglon and The Library.
Masterclass in session. Cheese pairing by The Cheese Ark Interactive display at the Glenfiddich room
Hendricks. My all time favourite gin. Really love the branding.
Needless to say, it was a good night. See you there next year. ;)
p.s. not too many pictures and you can probably guess why. haha.
